There are times when certain spaces around the house can be really infuriating to make any sense of. They just stay there staring at you while you draw a complete blank as to its perfect use. Like the dingy bottom of a staircase which is too small to shove a storage unit or odd shaped rooms with really awkward corners. Sometimes too large a wall or too narrow a corridor could also be really tough to make it look effortlessly chic and stylish. Today let us address these pesky little monsters which can really drive you up the wall. These utterly doable and shamelessly simple ideas will make you look at your home with a fresh pair of eyes.

1. UNASSUMING CORNERS
Sometimes big is always not such a good thing when it comes to real estate. Of course everybody dreams of huge, airy and spacious rooms in your homes. But when that comes with ugly corners and awkward contours, it spells disaster. Well, not anymore. Whenever you are faced with such a situation, decide on one or two main focal points. Punctuating a large space with different points of interests is key for any room design. But do not plan on decorating every available wall or corner. Pick your spots carefully. When you have weird corners to play with…choose an interesting wall paint and style the corner with funky furniture, art and accessories.

2. THE AWKWARD STAIRCASE LANDING :
A staircase landing is one of my favourite places to decorate. Very often people stuff the space with unused furniture or even leave it bare as they don’t deem it important enough to merit any interest. However it is one of the most versatile of spaces. I can picture it as a cozy reading nook with rows and rows of books lining the walls. I can picture it as a comfortable study with a convertible sofa-bed in a corner for your kids to lounge around while you are working at the desk. It can also work as a gallery for your favourite art or photograph collection. It can be transformed as a sun-filled morning room dotted with your favourite plants as you sit with your morning cup of tea. The options are literally endless. The best part of this space is that it does not interfere with the regular activities of the home and you can head there whenever you need to do some reading or even a little bit of daydreaming.

3. UNDERUTILIZED VERTICAL SPACE
Thinking of storage solutions in a small to medium sized washroom can be a real nightmare. Having a modest sized washbasin counter top is a luxury in most homes. So is having a much needed linen closet in the bathroom. Very often, we compromise other storage spaces to store our bathroom necessities. However one very seemingly simple but interesting solution is to utilise the vertical space available in the bathroom. Fix multiple rows of shelves in the space above the W.C. You can store your extra toilet paper, fresh handtowels in interesting wicker baskets, plonk a few vases with cheerful flowers and even display your regular toiletries in style.

4. DINGY STAIRCASE BOTTOMS
What do you do when you are stuck with an ugly, dark space below the staircase which does nothing but gather muck? The easiest solution is to add some interesting light fixture to get rid of the negative vibe. It can be the tiniest of spaces but you can always style it with an interesting piece of seating be it a chair, a pouf or even some floor cushions. Accessories and inspiration is all you need to dress up any corner and there will be no awkward spaces anymore!
